Receiving a college acceptance letter is one of the most exciting parts of being a high school senior and we want to capture that excitement!  Our #MyFuture Sweepstakes is encouraging high school seniors to post a photo or video with their acceptance letter to GAcollege411’s Facebook or Twitter pages. The winning posts will receive iPads – the perfect tool for college-bound students. All students have to do is like/follow us and post using the hashtag #MyFuture and tagging @GAcollege411!

Athens Tech is announcing a new Firefighter certification program beginning this fall. Graduates will be tested and certified at the National Professional Qualifications level. Students will leave with the skills, knowledge and credentials to serve as Firefighters in paid and volunteer fire departments. Kennesaw State University is offering two week-long program experiences for students with disabilities. This program will give learners confidence as they explore the KSU campus, access services and resources, and collaborate on a college-level presentation. Social skills, executive functioning, and classroom discourse at this major university are a focus of this program. Session dates are June 13-17 and July 11-15 from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm each day. The registration fee is $415.00 including lunch daily. Multiple scholarships up to $1100 will be awarded to Senior students at Senior Honors Night this year. Any Senior with a need may apply, but preference will be given to a member of the Varsity Boys or Girls Soccer teams. This scholarship is in memory of Ryan King, who was a member of the class of 2016.  This scholarship will be needs based and will require an essay entitled, “How your actions at school and home impact the lives of others.” The scholarship recipients will be announced on Honors Night.  Along with this application and essay, please attach a copy of an acceptance letter to the school in which you plan to attend along with a copy of your transcript. The application can be picked up in the Counseling Office. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 22.

Students who have been accepted to the University of North Georgia, Oconee campus, may be interested in applying for the UNG Campus Foundation Scholarship. Abbey Hospice is proud to announce the ninth annual camping experience for children and youth who have lost a loved one. Camp Journey is an overnight grief camp for children and youth ages 7-17.  Camp Journey is located at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, GA. It is led by trained staff members that are dedicated to helping children who are grieving. The date for the Spring camp session is Saturday, April 30. It will conclude the following day at 2:00 PM. American Legion Scholarships

The American Legion Post #20 is offering four scholarship programs this year. The four scholarship programs are:

Scholarship Announcements

1. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to one Oconee County public school senior from the Athens Area Retired Educators. The intent of the award is to assist the recipient in pursuit of his/her post-secondary educational goals. The nominated student must have the following:

1. Humanness (shows love and consideration for others).
2. Personal qualities (personality, perseverance, morals, ethics, dedication)
3. Breadth of activities in school.
4. Volunteer work/community service/work experience.

If you meet the criteria and would like to be nominated, please see Mr. Guthas in the Counseling Office. The nomination deadline is April 1.

2. Zaxby's is offering at $1,000 tuition assistance opportunity for college-bound students. This will be a reimbursement fund for tuition, fees or books each semester.
The reimbursement requirements are:
- Four months of continuous employment prior to the time of enrollment.
-Average of 20 hours per week employment during the semester.
- Assistance offered to Zaxby's employees at both the Watkinsville and Greensboro locations.

Each year the Georgia Development Authority awards up to five (5) scholarships to qualified high school students who are pursuing college degrees in agricultural related fields. Please visit  https://www.gdaonline.com/ for qualification and application details.  Here, it can be printed for completion and submission through the mail, or filled out and submitted online.  Please be aware that the online option requires total completion once begun, as there is no way to “save” your work.  The application most be postmarked by May 2.

The "Liga De Campeones" scholarship is designed to motivate Latino youth in the Atlanta area to pursue higher education. Students who are bilingual (Spanish and English), have a GPA of 3.2 or higher, are of Hispanic descent and live in the metro Atlanta that receive the Univision 34 signal are eligible to apply. Twelve, $1,300 scholarships will be awarded. Applications can be picked up in the Counseling Office and everything must be postmarked by March 31, 2016.

GA Fire Sprinkler Association Essay Contest

For twenty eight years, the Georgia Fire Sprinkler Association essay contest has exposed thousands of high school seniors and their families to the life safety and property protection attributes of fire sprinklers.
 
The Georgia Fire Sprinkler Association awards scholarships annually in the amount of $1500, $1000, and $750 to high school seniors through an essay writing contest.
