We just received this scholarship today, so the deadline is coming up fast!  Peach State Credit Union scholarship is in honor of Dr. John Jackson, retired Superintendent of Oconee County Schools, for his contributions to the Oconee County school system. It will be awarded to an Oconee County Public School graduating senior pursuing a degree in education. All scholarship winners will be chosen by the end of April 2017 and notified shortly thereafter. The scholarship is worth $2,500 and must be completed this week. Applications are in the counseling office. Senior students who are planning to pursue a post-secondary major in any field of agriculture (Animal Science, Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Landscape Design, Engineering, Horticulture, Family/Consumer Sciences) may apply for the Larry Risse Scholarship. This is given in by the Clarke-Oconee Cattlemen's Association. Applications may be picked up in the counseling office and must be turned in to the Oconee Extension Office by April 25.

Graduating high school seniors who intend to pursue post secondary education at a technical school are invited to apply for the Horatio Alger Association Career and Technical Scholarship Program
This program provides financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need. Up to 1,020 scholarships with a maximum worth of $2,500 will be awarded. The deadline to apply is June 15. Please apply at application.horatioalger.org .

  1. How important is sleep as a public health issue? Sleep has gotten a lot of coverage in the last few years and we’d like to know how you think it stacks up and why you feel that way. Please use research and statistics to back up your opinions.
  2. Describe your current relationship with sleep and assess the quality of that relationship. Research and cover at least two to three ways you think you should change your lifestyle/sleep hygiene habits to improve your sleep health and how you plan to implement them over the next year of your life.

LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP NIGHT FOR OCONEE STUDENTS - (6:00 - 7:30 PM, MONDAY, MARCH 27, 2017)
OCONEE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL - CAFETERIA

This local scholarship night is open to Juniors and Seniors to learn more about scholarships offered in Oconee County. Representatives will be present from local businesses and organizations that offer scholarships.

Four, $2,500 Novelis STEM scholarships will be awarded in May to area high school senior females who are pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) related undergraduate degrees. Applications may be picked up in the Counseling Office and must be turned in by April 12.

The Ron Brown Scholar Program is pleased to announce the opening of the Guided Pathway Support (GPS) Program. This program is open to rising African American juniors and seniors and is designed to help students navigate the college admissions process. GPS narrows the college access gap with tele-mentoring. The Dean Stuart Feldman Summer Science Institute is designed to provide an introduction and overview of the many career opportunities available in the pharmacy profession. The six-day summer program exposes high school students to classroom and laboratory experiences, and provides components of what students should expect from the college experience. The program is open to rising juniors and seniors and the cost is $350.00. Participants will also get to meet UGA Pharmacy professors during the week as well. You may pick up an application in the counseling office. The applications and all supporting documents are due by April 11 to the College of Pharmacy (no exceptions). The Janice Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by family members of the late Janice Marie Scott to honor her legacy as an advocate for youth in the Washington, D.C. area. Mrs. Scott was among the 125 individuals who perished in the Pentagon on 9/11.  Selections of senior student recipients are based primarily on financial need. Copies of the application will also be in the Counseling Office.

The Xi Lambda Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon International Fraternity announces the availability of five, $500 scholarships to male seniors who will be entering UGA in the Fall. One scholarship will be worth $1,000. Applications may be picked up in the counseling office and must be postmarked no later than June 1.

Abbey Hospice is proud to announce the tenth annual camping experience for children and youth who have lost a close loved one. Camp Journey is a grief camp for ages 7-17. The overnight grief camp in Rutledge, GA (Camp Twin Lakes) will be Saturday, April 29-Sunday, April 30. The camp is free to all participants. OCHS juniors are invited to apply to attend The American Legion Boys or Girls State this year. This is a great program for students who are interested in Government, Leadership and Citizenship to attend. The Georgia Boys State will be held June 18-24 and information can be found at www.dogboysstate.org The deadline to apply is May 10

The Girls State will be held June 11-16April 14 is that deadline. The applications can be downloaded from the website (www.georgiagirlsstate.org ) or can be picked up in the counseling office. Both programs are for juniors only.
