Each year, the State of Georgia funds 42 "Georgia Military Scholarships" (GMS) for high school seniors to attend North Georgia College & State University as Cadets, earn their bachelor's degrees, and then commission as second lieutenants in the Georgia Army National Guard.
These full scholarships pay for tuition, fees, room, meals, books and uniforms for eight semesters, and are worth around $70,000 each.
For this year's seniors who graduated last May, we only had 70 qualified applicants for the 42 scholarships, and we made offers to all 70.  We're looking for more than 70 applicants this year.
This scholarship is not for students who want to commission as lieutenants in the full-time, regular Army. Rather, they're for those who want to remain in Georgia after graduating from college, serve as a part-time officers, and compete for jobs in the private sector, public sector, or pursue post-graduate education.
The following link has a very detailed web site that provides step-by-step instructions:  www.northgeorgia.edu/gmssteps
The deadline for applying is February 1st and applications are being accepted now.
