The University of Georgia (UGA) is looking for high-achieving current high school Juniors from diverse backgrounds, for a new summer program in the UGA College of Public Health!  The program is called the Pre-Collegiate Summer Institute (PCSI) and is a one-week experience for students interested in attending the University of Georgia and majoring in a health, medicine, or science discipline.  PCSI will take place this summer from July 8th through July 14th in Athens, Ga. on the university campus.  During the week-long experience, PCSI students will reside on campus, receive education in the core areas of public health, and learn how to achieve success in the university setting.  Students will also enjoy fun extracurricular activities, make connections with other program participants, and become more acquainted with the UGA community.  The program is offered free of charge.  Only students who will be high school Seniors during the 2018-2019 school year are eligible.  Please see https://publichealth.uga.edu/pcsi/ for application information.  Applications are due by Friday, May 11, 2018.

The Education Foundation of the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that $500 scholarships will be offered to one graduate from each of the five high schools in Oconee County. The deadline to apply is April 13 and applications can be picked up in the counseling office. 

Students will be selected based on one or more of the following:
1. Response to essay question.
2. Participation and leadership in school/community activities.
3. Personal circumstances related to need.
4. Academic achievement. 

The University of North Georgia and its supporters proudly provide many UNG students with scholarships. Seniors attending UNG next year may apply for this funding by submitting an application to one or many of the UNG resources listed from the link below that meet your circumstances.

The Dean Stuart Feldman Summer Science Institute is designed to provide an introduction and overview of the many career opportunities in the pharmacy profession. The six-day summer program exposes students to classroom and laboratory experiences, and provides components of what students should expect from pharmacy school. The program is open to rising juniors and seniors, and the total cost is $350.00 per student. The program will be from June 3rd - June 8th. Delta Kappa Gamma International is awarding a $400 scholarship to an Oconee County High School senior who intends to become a teacher and has declared an education major at a college that he/she plans to attend. As part of the Redefining Ready! movement, AASA is partnering with Hobsons to offer the 2018 Redefining Ready! National Scholarship. The scholarship contest allows America's graduating high school seniors the opportunity to tell the world how they are college, career and life ready. Sixteen scholarships will be awarded to high school graduating seniors, including a grand prize of $5,000. Winners will be based on a 30-second video entry and a short essay (under 250 words) on readiness. Creativity counts, but so does honest, authentic and compelling content.  The scholarship contest is now open and closes on Monday, April 2, 2018. We are very delighted to announce the return of the “Liga de Campeones” (League of Champions) scholarship program. Univision 34 Atlanta and sponsors have brought back the popular scholarship program initiated for Hispanic high school seniors in the Atlanta Metropolitan area and surrounding counties! From December 2017 until March 31st, 2018, Univision 34 Atlanta will accept applications for our reward program. For thirty years, the Georgia Fire Sprinkler Association essay contest has exposed thousands of high school seniors and their families to the life safety and property protection attributes of fire sprinklers.  The Georgia Fire Sprinkler Association awards scholarships annually in the amount of $1500$1000, and $750 to high school seniors through an essay writing contest.  The link for complete information and details is:    http://www.georgiafiresprinkler.org/events/essay-contest/      The deadline for entries is March 12, 2018.  

The Athens Area Retired Educators Association will award a scholarship in the amount of $500 to an Oconee County public high school graduating senior.  The following will be considered in determining the recipient:

1. Personal qualities (personality, perseverance, moral, ethics, dedication)
2. Breadth of activities in school.
3. Volunteerism/Community participation or work experiences.
4. GPA

If you are interested in being nominated, please submit a letter of recommendation from an OCHS faculty member to Mr. Guthas in the Counseling Office by Monday, March 26.

Wofford proudly announces the 70th annual Wofford Scholars Program. Qualified candidates are eligible to compete for scholarships to Wofford, ranging from $10,000 per year up to a full scholarship. Current juniors in the top 10% of the junior class may be nominated. The student must also have achieved a minimum score of 1300 on the PSAT or SAT, or a 28 composite score on the ACT.
