Each year, the state of Georgia awards 42 outstanding high school seniors the University of North Georgia Military Scholarship. The UNGMS is a full, four-year scholarship that pays tuition, fees, books, room, meals and uniforms. It is valued at $85,000. The applicant must meet all the UNG freshman admission requirements. Please visit go.ung.edu/cadet-GMS for more information and to submit an application. 

An admissions representative from Georgia Southern University will be at OCHS on October 29 during Warrior Period. This will take place in the career center. Please sign up through SCOIR to attend.

For more than four decades, the Boston University Trustee Scholars Program has attracted students with outstanding academic ability from around the world.  Trustee Scholars rank at the top of their classes and demonstrate exceptional leadership in their schools and communities. Scholarship recipients are selected by a faculty committee from a competitive pool of applicants after rigorous review. The Trustee Scholarship covers full undergraduate tuition plus orientation and mandatory undergraduate student fees for four years.  To be considered, students must submit their application for admission with one Trustee Scholarship essay by December 1, 2019. Horatio Alger scholarships reward student who possess the character to succeed. To qualify, you must have at least a 2.0 GPA and require financial assistance to attend college. You must be able to demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted family income is required). To learn more and apply, visit scholars.horatioalger.org. University of Georgia’s Vet School for a Day (VSFD) 2019 is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, 2019. This program is open to high school juniors and seniors from Georgia and South Carolina to educate students about some of the many career opportunities within the field of veterinary medicine. They will hear from veterinarians from UGA’s vet school, a guest speaker, and receive a tour of our teaching hospital.  The application for VSFD 2019 will be available on our website (https://vet.uga.edu/academic-affairs/vet-school-for-a-day) until Monday, September 2. All application materials must be received by the September 2 deadline. There is no cost to apply to or attend the program. For more information about Vet School for a Day, please inform your students to contact vetcamp@uga.edu.

Welcome back!!

The Youth Leadership Oconee program through the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce is for any 10th or 11th grade students who want to further develop their leadership skills and channel those skills towards helping others and improving their community, to apply.   Applications are due back by Thursday, August 22.

The Progressive Outreach Coalition, Inc. is offering $750 scholarships to senior students. Applicants must be raised by a grandparent, another relative or some guardian other than a parent. You must have at least a 2.8 GPA, and plan on attending college in the fall of 2020. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office. The application must be postmarked by February 28th, 2020.

The ASVAB will be offered at the Oconee Civic Center on October 28 at 8:30 AM. Please see Mr. Guthas if you are interested in taking the ASVAB. This assessment is used to determine qualifications for the United States Armed Forces enlistments. All interested students in grades 10-12 can take the assessment.

Emory University admissions will be at OCHS on October 4 during Warrior Period. Please sign up in the counseling office if interested.

Keep Oconee County Beautiful Commission is currently seeking applications for their Youth Advisory Council for the 2019-2020 school year.  This group is made up of passionate middle and high school students who want to make a positive difference in their community.  It's an excellent opportunity for students to gain leadership experience and build their resumes while learning about sustainability and engaging in hands on projects.  Students meet once a month for planning, service, or events.

During the 2018/19 school year, the KOCBC YAC was instrumental in bringing public recycling to the City of Watkinsville at Harris Shoals Park and Rocket Field.  They also helped certify Harris Shoals Park, Watkinsville Woods and John McNally Park as recognized Wildlife Habitats in addition to multiple clean ups, the fall festival and other community events.
