Senior students who are planning on enrolling in a technical degree program/certificate program in the fall may be interested in applying for the Horatio Alger National Career and Technical Scholarship. Senior students who are planning to pursue a post-secondary major in any field of agriculture are invited to apply for the Larry Rissee Memorial Scholarship. This is a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by the Clarke-Oconee Cattlemen's Association. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office, and are due back to the Oconee County Extension office by April 15.

The Marine Corps League of Athens is offering a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to a graduating senior. An essay entitled "What Does the American Flag Mean to Me" is required along with the application. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office, and are due March 30, 2020.

High school juniors who are interested in attending Presbyterian College may be interested in applying to be a Presbyterian Fellow. Presbyterian Fellows receive a $4,000 scholarship for four years of study at Presbyterian. Selection as a PC Fellow also grants students consideration for other academic scholarships.

Juniors who meet two of the following criteria may be nominated:

1. PSAT score of 1100 or higher. SAT score of 1100 or higher. ACT composite score of 22 or higher.
2. Ranked in the top 10% of the junior class.
3. An unweighted GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Please see Mr. Guthas in the counseling office by March 27 if you meet the criteria and are interested in being nominated.

The UGA Zeta Psi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is offering the 2020 Kimberlee Nicole Chatmon Scholarship this year to interested applicants. The Kimberlee Nicole Chatmon Scholarship honors the first deceased sorority sister, and highlights the academic excellence of African American women in the area. 

Applications can be picked up in the counseling office, and are due back to the Zeta Psi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta by March 13. All applicants with completed materials submitted by the due date are invited to attend their Scholarship Brunch on Saturday, March 21. 

Camp Journey is an overnight camping experience designed to help children express and understand their grief. Any child ages 7-17 who has lost someone close to them may be interested in attending the camp. The camp is free to attend, and it will take place April 25 - 26th at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, GA. The Cavalier's Club of Athens will award a $500 scholarship to a graduating high school student who meets the following criteria:

- 3.0 GPA
- Has letter of acceptance to a college or technical college.

Applications can be picked up in the counseling office and are due in by March 1, 2020.

The Athens Area Chapter of the Fort Valley State University Alumni Association is offering a scholarship to seniors who will be attending Fort Valley State next year. You must be attending FVSU and have a 3.0 GPA to apply. The application deadline is April 13, 2020. To receive an application, please email Ruby Myers at rubymyers@bellsouth.net .

The Furman Scholars program allows for outstanding junior students to begin their path to Furman University. Students selected as Furman Scholars are eligible for at least $20,000 per year in scholarships to Furman.  Current juniors who have a strong interest in attending Furman, must have the following in order to be nominated:
  • A high school weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • At least a 1360 on the SAT, a 1360 on the PSAT, or a 29 on the ACT
  • Significant involvement in extracurricular activities and community service
  • Demonstrated leadership potential.

The University of Georgia (UGA) is looking for high-achieving current high school Juniors from diverse backgrounds, for a new summer program in the UGA College of Public Health!   The program is called the Pre-Collegiate Summer Institute (PCSI) and is a one-week experience for students interested in attending the University of Georgia and majoring in a health, medicine, or science discipline.  PCSI will take place this summer from June 7th through June 13th in Athens, Ga. on the university campus.

Last year, the Classic Center Cultural Foundation awarded $30,000 in scholarships to talented high school senior students. Three scholarships are awarded in the performing, visual and culinary arts fields. Please visit ClassicCenter.com/Scholarships to apply. The deadline to apply is March 6th. 

The Novelis Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Scholarship is awarded to a female senior who will be pursuing a STEM related career field/major. The scholarship is worth $2,500. The Peach State Federal Credit Union Legacy Scholarship honors the legacy of past and present board members and employees who have served Peach State Federal Credit Union for 20 years or more. It will be awarded to graduating seniors who intend to pursue a degree in education. The scholarship is worth $2,000. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office and are due to Peach State Credit Union by February 14. 

Peach State Federal Credit Union is once again sponsoring the Dr. John Jackson Student Scholarship. This scholarship is in honor of Dr. John Jackson, retired Superintendent of Oconee County Schools, for his contributions to the Oconee School System. It will be awarded to an Oconee County Public School graduating senior who plans on pursuing a degree in Education. The award is worth $2,000. Applications can be picked up in Counseling Office, and are due back to PSFCU by February 14.

The Heritage Club of Athens - Sylvia Gibson Scholarship will award a senior student who is planning on majoring in an agriculture/horticulture related field of study. The scholarship is now worth $2,000. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office, and are due back by March 13. 

The Gene Higginbotham Memorial Scholarship was founded in 2016. The scholarship honors Gene Higginbotham, who dedicated 50 years to the pest management industry in northeast Georgia. Applications for the scholarship can be found in the counseling office. Senior applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and a combined SAT score of 900/or ACT of 17. Email all required documentation to thebuzz@AmPest.com no later than Friday, March 20th. 

The Oconee County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that it will award $500 scholarships to one graduate from OCHS. The student selected should be an active participant and leader within the school. Personal circumstances related to need and the response to an essay question will also be factored in. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office and are due back to the Chamber of Commerce by 9:00 AM on April 15. 

The Oconee Chamber of Commerce - Women in Business is pleased to announce that a $500 scholarship will be offered to one female graduate at OCHS. The student selected will have exhibited the ability to succeed given less than ideal circumstances. Personal circumstances related to need will be a deciding factor in the selection process. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office, and must be turned in by April 15.

An admissions representative from Georgia College and State University will be at OCHS on January 16 during Warrior Period. The meeting will take place in the main conference room. 

Do you have a student that is interested in Business, Marketing, Culinary Arts, Hotel/Lodging Management or Event Planning? These are students that would be interested in the Hospitality Careers Academy! The Academy is a terrific summer opportunity for your students that are interested in a career in Hospitality, Tourism or Culinary Arts. Two OCHS graduating seniors will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Lions Club. This award is not intended to necessarily benefit students with high test scores or GPA's. Consideration will be given to need, recommendations, personal achievements, and record of service to the community. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office, and must be returned by 2:00 PM on April 17

New Year, New Scholarships

Robins Financial Credit Union is now accepting applications for their available scholarships to seniors. The student selected must be a member of Robins Financial Credit Union. The scholarship is worth $2,000 and must be returned to RFCU by 12:00 on March 27th. Scholarship applications may be obtained at www.robinsfcu.org, and can also be picked up in the Counseling Office.
