The Oconee County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a local scholarship fair on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m at the Oconee County Civic Center   Representatives will be present from approximately 20 local businesses and organizations that offer scholarships specifically to Oconee County students.

Augusta University will be hosting two fall preview days this year. The event dates are Saturday, September 28 as well as Friday, November 8. Please visit www.augusta.edu/visit for more information about Augusta University and to register.


The Athens Area Human Relations Council, Inc. will soon be selecting students to receive scholarships at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Banquet in January. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office and must be post-marked by October 26, 2019. The awards banquet will be held on Saturday, January 18 at the Classic Center at 5:00 PM.  Please pick up an application as soon as possible so that there is enough time to complete it, along with the supporting documentation needed. 


Since its founding in 1839, Virginia Military Institute has recognized and rewarded outstanding academic achievement. Approximately 100 cadets attend the Institute on full and partial academic scholarships. To be an Institute Scholar, candidates must have a 3.7 GPA and a SAT score of 1350/ACT of 31. The candidate should also be in the top 10% of the senior class. Georgia State University is hosting a free webinar on Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. (Eastern time) for high-ability high school seniors who are interested in learning more about our Presidential Scholarship—the most prestigious and valuable academic award at Georgia State University.  You can register here  The Presidential Scholarship program recognizes incoming first-year students who were leaders in their high schools and offers them the support and experiences that will set them up to be leaders in their careers and communities. The scholarship is valued at up to $28,803 per year 

Presidential Scholars receive the following benefits for eight semesters:
·  Cost of tuition, housing and mandatory student fees
·  A yearly living expense stipend
·  A one-time $2,500 stipend for credit-bearing study abroad expenses
·  Opportunity for a paid University Assistantship to explore research and engaging work experience on campus

Student and their families are invited to attend the Atlanta STEM College and Career Fair on Sept. 29 at Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavillion from 1-4pm.  Free and open to the public, the fair is for high school students interested in college majors and careers in engineering, medicine, computer science, and other STEM fields.  Students will meet face-to-face with hundreds of college representatives and industry professionals — all in one place. They'll get their questions answered about majors, degree programs, campus visits, internships, scholarships, financial aid, and much more. Plus, they can take advantage of STEMinars on topics such as writing a winning college essay and standing out in the admission process.

 The Jefferson Scholars Foundation at the University of Virginia is now accepting nominations for the Jefferson Scholars Class of 2024.  Jefferson Scholarships provide full tuition, fees, and a living stipend for four years of undergraduate study at U.Va., plus a number of generous enrichment benefits, including a study abroad experience. To learn more about the scholarship, the selection criteria, and the multi-stage selection process by visiting the Foundation’s website.
Camp MAGIK, a healing camp for bereaved children and adolescents, is announcing its fall 2019 camp sessions. Our fall sessions will be held at The Swamp in Union Point October 4-6, 2019. Applications need to be postmarked, emailed, or faxed to us no later than September 25, 2019. We will provide free transportation to camp and back based on need.  Camp MAGIK is well suited to all youth ages 7 through 18 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or other close loved one, especially youth who have experienced traumatic death. Professional bereavement counselors, trained in grief and trauma, lead all counseling sessions. This will be our 25th year providing this evidence-based service to the community.  There is also a retreat available for adults who want to process their own grief with other adults who are grieving  Our camp sessions are FREE OF CHARGE to all participating children and adolescents. The National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): National Security - Diplomacy, Intelligence & Defense, will be hosting a program in Washington, D.C. this coming summer. This will be a six-day experience of stimulating, hands-on experiences. Students will learn about national security careers while enhancing communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
