The University of Georgia Young
Scholars Program is a six week summer internship
for high school students interested in science, agriculture, or engineering.
Through the program, young scientists are given the opportunity to study within
an agricultural field, such as entomology, food science, genetics, etc., and

future career in science.

opportunity to earn money for six
weeks during the summer working with animals, plants, insects, machinery,
scientific lab equipment, etc

The focus of this year's program will be on Positive Behavior Supports and will be presented by Dr Dan Crimmins and Stacey Ramirez from Georgia State University. Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) can help break the cycle that can include tantrums, running away or hurting oneself or others. The approach is based on 3 components, understand, prevent and replace. It begins with analyzing how problems behaviors can be functional (and how they may serve as a means of communicating or getting one's way). Caregivers can then develop plans to prevent the behavior by anticipating the individual's needs before the problem occurs and then begin to teach new behaviors to replace the problematic ones.
