The Gene Higginbotham Memorial Scholarship was founded in 2016. Honoring Gene Higginbotham, who dedicated 50 years to the Pest Management Industry, this scholarship is worth $2,000 to a graduating OCHS student. American Pest Control was founded by Gene Higginbotham in 1971. His children now carry on the mission that was started.

Applications can be picked up in the counseling office and must be postmarked or emailed back to American by March 31. The applicant must have a 3.0 GPA and a 900 combined SAT score. Please pick up your application as soon as possible so that enough time can be dedicated to completing it. 

The Oconee Little League will recognize and award outstanding seniors who have the love for softball or baseball. There will be five scholarships awarded throughout the county for seniors who have played baseball or softball for at least two years of their high school career. The grand prize winner will receive $1,000 and four runners up will receive $500.00. Applications may be picked up in the counseling office, and must be returned to Oconee Little League by February 25, 2017. 

The purpose of the Oconee Lions Club scholarships is to recognize the achievements of two OCHS graduating seniors who provide the evidence of the following criteria: (1) good citizenship, (2) an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community, (3) academic achievement, and (4) a record of service to the community.  The award is not intended necessarily to recognize students with high grade point averages. In the evaluation, consideration will be given to need, recommendations, personal achievements, and a statement of the applicant's goals. Special weight will be given to community service accomplishments.  The amount of the award is $1,000 each. Applications may be picked up in the counseling office and are due by 3:00 PM on April 21 to the counseling office. 

The Georgia Development Authority would like to recognize and assist deserving senior students who are planning to pursue a degree in agriculture or a related field. The scholarships are in the amount of $1,500. Applications may be picked up in the counseling office and must be postmarked to the GA Development Authority office by May 1.

 The Asian Pacific Islanders for Professional and Community Advancement(APCA) seeks qualified applicants for both its “national & “state” scholarship program. APCA is a non-profit Employee Resource Group within the AT&T corporation. We are proud to announce that (21 or more) $2000 National APCA scholarships will be awarded for the 2017 academic year. We are also offering (15+) $2000 scholarships specifically to students who attend high schools within the State of Georgia.  Our program is an excellent opportunity to recognize students who excel in the classroom, as well as demonstrate awareness of and participation in community diversity related activities. 

Past winners of APCA scholarships have gone on to attend prestigious institutions of higher learning such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Vanderbilt, John Hopkins, Georgetown, and our own state universities of Emory, Georgia Tech & The University of Georgia. The APCA scholarship program is open to ALL high school seniors of any ethnic or cultural background with a minimum GPA of 3.4 on a 4.0 scale. For the past 51 years, Walton EMC has invested in our area's young people by sending them on an all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C.  All sophomore and junior students who live in Walton EMC's service area are eligible to apply for the Washington Youth Tour (June 8-15). Entry forms may be picked up in the counseling office and are due to Walton EMC by February 10. If selected, you must commit to the trip. An admissions representative from The University of North Georgia will be here at OCHS on January 25 during Warrior Period. If you are interested in meeting with the representative, please sign up in the counseling office. This will be held in the main conference room. 

Please remember that the Georgia District Pilot Foundation (Lynda Goodwin Volunteer Scholarship) is due to Mr. Guthas on January 13. Students do not have to have a recommendation letter from a Pilot Club member at this time. The holiday break is a great time to work on applications.

McWhorter School of Pharmacy at Samford University is offering a one week Pharmacy Camp this summer for high school students that are interested in investigating a career as a Pharmacist.  We would like to invite your students to participate in this McWhorter School of Pharmacy Camp.  During the week of pharmacy camp they will experience hands-on learning about health careers in pharmacy, participate in tours of local health care facilities and local pharmacies, participate in compounding activities and hands on demonstrations in the McWhorter School of Pharmacy science laboratory.   Students who attend the camp will have the unique opportunity to spend time on the Samford campus and experience campus life with us, spend time with pharmacy professors, and have a lot of time to interact with other students also interested in careers in pharmacy.   Space is limited so apply early.  The application deadline is February 1, 2017. The Georgia Pilot Foundation will award up to three $1,500 scholarships for outstanding community volunteer service to graduating seniors. The Lynda Goodwin Volunteer Scholarships are sponsored each year by the Pilot Club. Applications may be picked up in the Counseling Office and must be postmarked by January 13, 2017. The student must have a 3.0 GPA to apply. An essay and recommendation letters are required as well, students need to keep these requirements in mind as well.

Walton EMC is pleased to offer again the Walter Harrison Scholarship to students. In 1987, Georgia EMC, along with the 42 EMC's in Georgia, established a scholarship fund in honor of Walter Harrison. Harrison, called "Mr. Rural Electrification" in Georgia, was nationally known for his lifetime efforts to make electricity available to every home in Georgia.  Ten scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded for 2017. The scholarship application and criteria list can be found at www.waltonemc.com/walterharrison. The application, along with supporting data, must be received by Walton EMC no later than January 20. 

Walton Electric Membership Corporation (EMC), in conjunction with the Walton Electric Trust, is proud to once again offer scholarships for the 2017-2018 college school year. 

In the spring of 2017, we will award between 30 and 32 scholarships to graduating high school seniors whose primary residence is served by Walton EMC.  Each scholarship will be worth $4,000 to students who best demonstrate the EMC spirit of community service, hard work and perseverance.  The successful candidate will not necessarily have the top grades in the class, but will have demonstrated their willingness to help others, study hard, and succeed despite any obstacles that they may have had to overcome.

Many potentially good candidates have not applied for the scholarship thinking that they do not have good enough grades to win. Walton has awarded some scholarships in the last several years to students that carried less than a “B” average.  The intangibles have proven to be much more persuasive to our judges than just GPA and test scores.   

The scholarship will be available to pursue education objectives at any accredited college, university, or vocational/ technical school, not just four-year institutions. Applications may be picked up in the Counseling Office. The applications are due to Walton EMC by no later than Monday, January 30, 2017.  There will be no exceptions to the deadline.
