High school representatives, students and their parents can learn about the college admissions process and how to apply for scholarships and financial aid at the fifth annual “Colleges in Your Backyard” event hosted by the University of Georgia Office of Undergraduate Admissions on January 19, 2014 from 3-5 p.m.in the UGA Chapel (North Campus).

The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature a panel discussion with representatives from the UGA Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Office of Student Financial Aid as well as representatives from Athens Technical College, Piedmont College and the University of North Georgia.

mini college fair in Terrell Hall, where the UGA Office of Undergraduate Admissions is located, will immediately follow the panel discussion and will include an opportunity for students and parents to receive additional information on each of the represented colleges and ask questions.

Free parking will be available in the North Campus Parking Deck, located on South Jackson Street across from Terrell Hall.

In an effort to aide area high school students in their academic performance, the In Touch Management Group Youth Academy will kick off on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the Athens Regional Library. Six students from OCHS in grades 9-11 may be nominated to attend.
 
It is the intent of the Academy to close the gap of the educational divide of those on the outside looking in. There is no fee to participate. The Academy will host a series of monthly weekend classes, lectures, guest speakers and field trips.
 
If you are interested in learning more, please see Mr. Guthas in the Counseling Office. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be nominated. Meetings will be held at Athens Regional Library on the following Saturdays:
