Welcome Back!
Parent nights for all grade levels will be held the next two weeks. Parent nights give parents grade specific information regarding graduation, HOPE, post high school planning, etc. All parent nights are held at the Oconee County Civic Center.

Grades 10 – 11 – Youth Leadership Oconee
The purpose of Youth Leadership Oconee is to provide opportunities for young adults to develop leadership skills and the community awareness necessary to address challenges facing Oconee County.
Current 10th and 11th grade students living or educated in Oconee County who want to further develop their leadership skills and channel those skills towards helping others should apply. Student youth leaders who want to take on more active leadership roles in their school/community should also consider applying. If selected, you commit to attending the orientation, all-day retreat, four program sessions and graduation.
Applications and complete details can be picked up in the guidance office. The application deadline is Monday, September 13, 2010
Grades 9-12 – Watson Brown Junior Board
Applications for the 2010-2011 Athens Area Chapter of the Watson-Brown Foundation Junior Board of Trustees are now being accepted. The Watson-Brown Foundation labors to improve education and preserve history in the American South, in part through its Junior Board of Trustees. Motivated and talented high school students are being sought to fill the vacant board positions.
Students selected for membership on the Watson-Brown Junior Board of Trustees must be, and remain, in good academic standing during their tenure on the Board. Membership carries with it significant expectations and responsibilities, and students are needed who will take their membership in this prestigious group seriously.
Applications can be picked up in the guidance office and are due by September, 15, 2010.
Grade 12 – New Scholarships
The Georgia Fire Sprinkler Association awards scholarships annually in the amount of $1,500, $1000 and $750 to high school seniors through an essay writing contest. Auburn University has many academic scholarships available, including non-resident scholarships. Please visit auburn.edu/scholarship for complete details and deadlines.
The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. End of the School Year!
Seniors participating in Baccalaureate need to be at Mars Hill by 3:40 on Sunday in their cap and gown. If you are part of the program please be at Mars Hill by 3:30. Praise Band Members need to arrive by 3:00.
Grades 9-12 - Medications
If your student has medications in the clinic, please pick them up on or before May 24th. Any medicines left after this date will be disposed of.
Grades 9-12 - Final Exam information
1. Senior Exam Schedule
Senior exams will begin on Tuesday, May 18 with all “A” day exams and all regular block exams for 1st and 2nd blocks. On Wednesday, May 19, all “B” day exams and all regular block exams for 3rd and 4th blocks will be held. A regular bell schedule will be run on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
2. Underclassmen Exam Schedule
Underclassmen exams will begin on Wednesday, May 19 with all “B” day exams. A regular bell schedule will run on this day. All regular block and “A” day exams for 1st and 2nd blocks will be Thursday, May 20. All regular block and “A” day exams for 3rd and 4th blocks will be Friday, May 21. The exam bell schedule will run on Thursday and Friday.

Please Note:
- All students will be dismissed at 12:15 (busses will also run at this time)
- Students will not be allowed to leave before the exam period is over.
- If students are exempting an exam and need to arrive late or check out early, they must use the exam exemption form they will receive on Monday. There will be no phone checkouts allowed on exam days.

Parking Permits for 2010-2011 School Year
Parking Permits will go on sale next week, May 4th-6th from 7:30 - 8:00 a.m.
- Tue. May 4th will be for Rising Seniors
- Wed. May 5th will be for Rising Juniors
- Thurs. May 6th will be for Rising Sophomores
Students can pick up an Application and Drug Consent Form in the Attendance Office before and after school and during lunch each day.
Students will need to be passing 3 out of 4 classes and all fines paid in full to apply for a parking permit for 2010-11.

K-12 students can take advantage of summer camps and other learning opportunities at the University of Georgia. The activities range from sports camps to leadership programs to academic-intensive offerings and internships, with some camps offering students the chance to stay in the residence halls. Rising seniors who are interested in the Science field may be interested in the UGA College of Pharmacy's Summer Academy. The program will take place from June 6-12 and will include laboratory, lectures and other academically enrichment components. The Georgia Engineering Foundation is offering Engineering Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to $5,000 to college-bound students enrolling in an ABET accredited program leading to a Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology. Students may apply online at www.GEFinc.org . Applications are due August 31, 2010.

Relay for Life Chic-Fil-A Night - Relay for Life is having a Chick-fil-a Spirit Night on Tuesday, April 13th, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Some of OCHS finest and most talented bands are scheduled to perform. Come to Chick-fil-a on Tuesday, and help in our fight to find a cure for Cancer. Only inside food sales apply (no drive through);
Grade 12 - Steve Bell Memorial Scholarship
Steve Bell was an Oconee County businessman who grew up in this area participating in sports. He had two children who graduated from OCHS and were involved in multiple sports. Steve believed that participation in sports built character. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a deserving senior OCHS athlete. While community service and academic performance should be considered, students exhibiting visible leadership skills, exceptional work ethic and strong character will receive the highest recognition.
