The award-winning Frederick Douglass Distinguished Scholars (FDDS) program at American University (AU) is offering five full scholarships to high potential, incoming first-year student leaders dedicated to post-baccalaureate education, socially-responsible leadership, and lifelong achievement! FDDS personify innovation, entrepreneurial thinking, and originality. They are a new generation of leaders in relentless pursuit of excellence. FDDS draw on the knowledge, experience, and network of influential alumni, faculty, and staff to prepare for graduate/professional school, develop long-term personal and professional goals, and hone the specialized skills necessary for socially-responsible leadership.
Selected on the basis of recommendation letters, intellectual curiosity, leadership experience, personal qualities, and interest in attending graduate and/or professional school, FDDS receive AU’s most prestigious merit-based scholarship - full tuition, room, board, meal plan, books, metro pass, and mandatory fees. It is renewable for a total of four years of undergraduate study, provided Scholars maintain a minimum cumulative 3.2 GPA. Students applying as freshmen who would like to be considered for the scholarship must complete the FDDS program application by January 15th. While we encourage applications from all ambitious, well-rounded student leaders, the most competitive applicants will have a minimum 3.8 GPA (unweighted) or 4.0 GPA (weighted). Standardized test scores are not required and submission is optional. To apply, please visit http:// www.american.edu/ DouglassScholars
