Rising Senior Female students may be interested in attending the American Legion Girls State event this year. It will be held on June 12-June 17 at Georgia Southern University. You may visit www.georgiagirlsstate.org for complete details. Application can be picked up in the Counseling Office. The applications are due March 30. There is no cost to the student other than spending money.  Girls State delegates are a diverse group of young women with a shared desire to learn and lead. About 16,000 women participate in this event each summer. Students will learn about government from the local level to the state level. Using nonpartisan curriculum, participants assume the roles of government leaders. This is a great program for young leaders who are interested in future government leadership!

Attention Rising Senior male students:  Georgia Boys State is a comprehensive one week course in state and local government and is a program of the American Legion Department Of Georgia. This year's session will be held onJune 12-18 at Riverside Military Academy.  It is a "leadership action program" where qualified male high school rising seniors take part in a practical government course. It is designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of government and to impress upon the citizen the fact that our government is just what we make it. Along the way delegates have the opportunity to learn the political process by organizing a mythical 51st state. Each level of government is run by those delegates who are elected to serve. Instruction is presented on the law and court system, parliamentary procedure and Georgia political history.  More information can be found at www.dogboysstate.org. Applications can be picked up in the Counseling Office. The applications are due by March 30, 2016. There is no cost for the selected student to attend other than spending money.
