Peach State Federal Credit Union is pleased to offer their 12th Annual Legacy Student Scholarships, given in honor of past and present Board members and employees who have served Peach State for 20 years or more. These nine $2,500 scholarships will be awarded in May to high school seniors who will be attending college to pursue a degree in education and plan to return to Georgia to teach. They are also pleased to offer the Dr. John Jackson Scholarship. This scholarship honors Dr. John Jackson, retired Superintendent of Oconee County Schools, for his contributions to the Oconee County school system. It will be awarded to an Oconee County Public School graduating senior pursuing a degree in education. Applications for these scholarships can be picked up in the Counseling Office and must be received by Peach State no later than March 21, 2014.
High achieving low-income students may be interested in learning about The College Prep Scholarship given by QuestBridge. Athens Regional Medical Center's Volunteer Services Department is now accepting inquiries regarding their Teen Volunteer Program for the summer of 2014. Teens who are ages 15-17 by June 1 are asked to contact Lynda Jones, Volunteer Services Manager, at (706) 475-3405 to request an application packet. Applicants must have a B average or higher and have high standards of behavior. The application deadline is March 7, 2014. Volunteers will be used in all departments of the hospital.

U.S. Congressman Paul Broun, M.D. (GA-10) invites all high school students in Georgia’s 10th Congressional District to participate in the 2014 Congressional Art Competition. Congressman Broun, in collaboration with Georgia Square Mall, will host a ceremony for all participating students on Saturday, May 3rd. This event will include a display of all artwork entries, and Congressman Broun will announce this year’s first place entry as well as the runners up. The winning artist will be invited to a national reception in Washington D.C. where his or her artwork will be on display for one year in the U.S. Capitol. Additionally, the student will be eligible to receive a collegiate art scholarship.
The competition is open to Georgia’s 10th Congressional District students in grades 9-12. Each participating student must fill out a Student Release Form and comply with the Competition Guidelines, which can be found on Congressman Broun’s website at www.broun.house.gov/kids/art. htm.
