Our recent issues between Powerschool and GAcollege411 have been resolved! All OCHS Students have an account on www.gacollege411.org. For most students their username is their lunch number followed by their last name in lowercase letters. If they still cannot login, please have them stop by the guidance office to have their password reset. Once they log in, they can check their HOPE GPA, research colleges and careers and apply to college. Seniors may also use the site to request free transcripts to be sent electronically to in-state schools.
If you are the parent of a Junior who intends to take the SAT this year, the best practice and feedback to prepare them for the test can be gotten by retaking the PSAT. Not only will they get back a score, they will also get access to an online customized study guide to prepare them for the SAT. Students can sign up with Joyce Oliver in the front office and the cost is $16. Monday, October 3rd is the last day for Juniors to sign up to take the PSAT.
Jefferson Scholarships to the University of Virginia are granted to individuals on the basis of merit alone and are full scholarships to the University. OCHS can nominate one senior to be in the overall running for this scholarship. The senior must have an outstanding academic record and should be in the top of the class. Successful candidates have demonstrated uncommon academic abilities, exceptional leadership talents and an understanding of the broader community around them. The Jefferson Scholars Foundation seeks to identify the most highly talented students in the world. Please visit www.jeffersonscholars.org for complete details. Please see your counselor if you are interested in being nominated by October 7.
