UGA is hosting a Science and Math Academy from June 6-June 24. The hours will be 8:30-12:00 noon. This program is for college-bound high school students interested in math, science, technology, engineering or related careers. Students will engage in a variety of mathematics and science activities facilitated by UGA faculty.

Rising high school juniors and seniors should complete an application and submit to their math or science teacher for a recommendation into the program. There are no admission fees, but students are responsible for meals and transportation. Applications and the teacher recommendation forms can be picked up in the guidance office. For more information, please contact Cory Buxton (buxton@uga.edu) or Doug Griffin (doug1115@uga.edu).

New Scholarships

This year, Merck Respiratory will again sponsor the Will to Win Scholarship Program for high school seniors with asthma who are pursuing higher education.  This nationwide scholarship recognizes high school seniors who are disciplined, outstanding, determined and successful in managing their asthma. College bound seniors with asthma who have achieved a level of excellence in one of the following are encouraged to apply: performing arts, visual arts, community service, athletics or science. Applicants must also hold a minimum 3.5 GPA and have received at least one award related to their entry category.  Please see Mr. Guthas for an application. All applications must be received by Merck Respiratory by April 30.

The Athens Area Retired Educators Association annually awards a monetary scholarship to an Oconee County public high school graduating senior. The intent of the award is to assist the recipient in pursuit of his/her post-secondary goals. Seniors are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. In order to apply, please have an administrator, counselor or teacher write a letter of recommendation on your behalf. The recommendation should address your personal qualities, school activities, community service, GPA and work experience (if applicable). Please turn in all recommendations to the guidance office by Tuesday, April 12 to be considered.
