Stanford University will select the finest students from across the country to participate in its summer programs for high school students. The summer programs offer highly motivated and intellectually curious students the opportunity to explore and discover topics not typically taught in secondary schools. The Athens Area Retired Educators Association is offering two, $500.00 scholarships to two senior OCHS students. The characteristics of the selected student will be based on the following:
 1. Great personal qualities (personality, perseverance, morals, dedication, etc.)
2. Breadth of school activities
3.Volunteerism/community participation/work experience
4. GPA
5. Humanness
If you are interested in being nominated, please have a teacher, counselor or administrator write a recommendation on your behalf. The recommendation should include the areas mentioned above. Please have your nomination papers in to the Counseling Office by March 19.

High school juniors who have demonstrated superior academic excellence and have a potential for future success can be nominated for the prestigious Presbyterian College Fellows Award.  Juniors nominated must be in the top 10 percent of the class with a weighted GPA of a 3.6 or higher. The student must also have a SAT score of 1100 or higher (math and critical reading) or 24 ACT composite score or higher.  Selection as a PC Fellow grants students consideration for scholarships to Presbyterian College.
